We are working with the local community to create a new neighbourhood that integrates well with its surroundings. Our hope is to find a commercially viable masterplan that meets the objectives of the local community.
This is a fresh start for the Chelsea Barracks site, using a masterplan approach. Public participation is a vital element of the masterplanning process - the more local people and organisations can contribute to the shaping of the masterplan, the better it will be.
A masterplan is a comprehensive document showing how new housing areas, streets and open spaces will integrate with the local environment and connect with other retail, leisure, employment and educational facilities. The masterplan will describe proposals for street layouts, public spaces, building blocks and basic forms, uses including residential, community facilities, sports facilities, shops and a hotel, and movement routes both vehicular and pedestrian.
The Chelsea Barracks Partnership consultation process is carried out by Soundings. This diagram helps to illustrate how we are connected to the other teams involved in the Chelsea Barracks masterplanning process.
The consultation process focuses upon what themes, ideas and issues the masterplan should address in order to set out and develop the right approach. As the masterplan takes shape we will concentrate on six thematic elements: Architecture and masterplanning generally, public space and linkages, community and other facilities, massing and local fit, affordable housing and vehicular access. These themes reflect areas of interest flagged up in the initial round of consultation carried out in September and October.
